pit bull stereotype

Isn’t it weird how everyone always thinks if a dog is a pitbull, even just part pit, it must be mean? Working at the Humane Society and being around a lot of pits myself I know that stereotype is completely WRONG! I love pit bulls and they are some of the most loving and caring dogs I’ve ever met. I was back in Tucson this weekend for a friend’s wedding and had the pleasure of spending time with Hucksley- a pit mix. He’s about four and has so many problems with getting valley fever, his knees being bad and of course his beautiful underbite, but he’s got a heart of gold. Always asking for hugs and belly rubs Hucksley is so sweet. He’s got it a bit more tough with his appearance and when his family takes him to the dog park they have to tell people he’s a boxer mix because people give them bad looks and have asked them to leave before. All I ask is that people give them a chance- it’s up to the owner to train the dogs to be good and if the owner treats them bad, what do you think will happen? The great thing is there is always room for rehabilitation in dogs, they just need a chance….

So next time you see a pit bull walking by ask the owner if you can pet them, because chances are they’ll take in the lovin’ you give and maybe even give you a kiss or two!

I love it! Hux has the meanest mug around, but is a huge softy. Brian just adopted a pit too and guess what? He is another lover.
